Our clients recently purchased a new home in The Cottages neighborhood of North Bend. The backyard was unfinished so we were able to start the new landscape from scratch. The property borders a native buffer area with large leaf maples so the backyard receives little to no sunshine. All of the plants we installed thrive in shady areas. We installed Vine Maples to keep some of the planting native. We also installed Yew, Camellia, and Hydrangea as the other anchor plants. The main show piece is the Mikawa Yatsubusa Japanese Maple right off of the existing concrete patio. The other plants include; Sarcococca, Hosta, Hellebore, Leucothoe, various Ferns, and Irish Moss. The dry river bed was built to create a drainage swale through the backyard due the backyard’s elevation in relation to the adjoining homes. We also built a small retaining wall out of Basalt boulders to create a mounded planter in the corner of the yard. As these plants mature it will become an even more impressive landscape!
